The recent deaths of two net gamers have once again raised the issue of the impact of addiction on the online gaming community, and the health risks involved.

A 28-years-old man from Beijing, nicknamed "Snowly", died last month after playing the online game "World of Warcraft" for several continuous days during the national day holiday. Snowly's friends, who share the same
game community, say that he was a very diligent member and a key official of their community, who was always connected to the Internet.

Several days before Snowly's death, the gamer was said to be preparing for a relatively difficult part of the game ( the final battle with the Black Dragon Prince) and had very little rest. He told his friends that he felt very tired. A big online funeral was held for him one week after the death.

But the event was sadly overshadowed by the death of another game enthusiast nicknamed Thereafter.
Several online game communities have posted announcements to urge their members to pay attention to their health.
Meanwhile, 7 major domestic game makers have agreed to install an anti-obsession system on eleven online game products.

sorry but I laughed at that. Was the guy chained to the computer, so he couldn't even get a drop of water or turn rice cooker on? Died after only 2 days of gaming? What was the cause of death? (I may have missed that info, apologies if I overlooked it)

Apparently not. That person couldn't even get a single drop of water!

In February 2005, a player named Fayejin suffered a stroke while playing WoW and died later in the day. A virtual funeral was performed for her in WoW a week after her death.

In March 2005, a player nicknamed as "Snowly" died while playing WoW after sitting in front of his computer for 3 days straight without rest and breaks.

In June 2005, a 4 months old baby girl died of suffocation while her WoW addict parents left her alone at home while she was asleep to a nearby cyber cafe to play WoW for 2 hours. Her parents were sued.

In November 2005, a man nick named "Thereafter" also died while playing WoW. Not much information was given regarding this case.

Being addicted to fiction, where you can forget your own crap life and become a completely different character must appeal to some. Imagine what it will be like when we are fed real virtual reality, and not the 10 year old technology we're still buying now, when screens are old fashioned and the vision is pinned directly to the brain, or sensorial receptors. Then games will be on the same level as drugs.
